If you're sick of heavy-handed anti-piracy measures creeping their way into your games, get ready for a real shock. Beginning next month, PC games from top publisher Ubisoft will require a constant, uninterrupted Internet connection to play -- regardless of whether or not you're using any online functions.

Quote

Without a live Internet link, you won't even be able to start the game, and if your connection drops while you're playing for any reason, you'll be kicked out of the game and potentially lose your progress. Dial-up users, needless to say, need not apply.

Is there an "off-line" option?
No. The added services to the game (unlimited installs, online storage of saved games and the fact that you don’t need the game disc to play) require you to have an online connection while playing the game.

Quote

What will happen if I lose my Internet connection when I play the game?
If you lose your Internet connection the game will pause while it tries to reconnect. If the Internet connection is unable to resume, the server will have stored your last saved game and you will be able to continue from where you left off once your internet connection is restored.

Quote

Will I need to be online the whole time when I play the game? Including for single player?
Yes. You will need to have an active Internet connection to play the game, for all game modes.

Can I resell my game?

Can I resell my game along with my Ubisoft account?

Something related and interesting about this concept:

I am taking classes at Harper College. Most student will try to buy "used" books to save money. There's a new concept called, "licensed books" which a lot of the scholastic publishers are starting to use. The book is licensed to you and you can't sell it, and the license is good for 18 months.

For my class, you can buy the textbook for $200 with a 18 months license and it's good for two semesters, or you can buy the book online for $80 per semester ($160 for two semesters) with a 18 month license.

Half the information you need for the class is in the textbook and the other half is online. Instructors check your progress online.

WB, I am sure your son will run into this sooner or later.

I am on year 6 of buying textbooks. Until now I have had mixed success at buying used, the bad deals were books that were the wrong revision, which went away for the most part when you knew to look for that. Licensing books is gonna suck, I guess they got the idea from the music world

As far as Ubi, F them , they have been dead to me for a while...
